Look for flashes of gold in our Backlands in the coming days as this rare Atlantic Coastal Plain species comes into bloom. It is especially likely to be found and in abundance in areas that burned in 2009 and 2012. See Nova Scotia Wild Flora Society website for more info about it.

Tuesday June 10: Long Lake Provincial Park.

There is meeting on Tuesday June 10, at 6.30 p.m. at Captain William Spry Community Centre (Spryfield) concerning a proposal to make a parking lot within Long Lake Provincial Park. The proposal has been made by a developer who has excess rock and needs to dispose of it. The parking lot would have an associated trail system. These do not conform fully with the official park management plan. The meeting has been called by DNR parks division and will determine whether this proposal goes ahead. The park management plan would need to be amended because this proposal will affect access to the park and the trail concept within the plan. View Poster for the meeting
